PBPC Daily - Tuesday, May 5

Good morning and welcome to Tuesday.

Our sermon series during this season is "The Fruit of the Spirit," and our theme this week is Love. It is impressive how much Jesus talks about love with his disciples. Unfortunately, love is not necessarily the first quality that most people associate with Christians - in fact, it might not even make the top five. But Jesus is very clear that the greatest evidence that we are His disciples is our love for one another.

Before we talk further about this call to love, however, it is vital to remember and understand that we cannot simply generate this love on our own. The love that Jesus wants us to demonstrate has its source in God.

16So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. 17Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgement, because as he is, so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. 19We love because he first loved us. - 1 John 4:16-19

We love because God first loved us. God's love for us is the starting place for our faith and for every good thing that God wants to do in our lives. Do you believe that God loves you? Do you believe that God really loves you, not out of obligation, but out of the sheer joy He has in you as His child? In case we may doubt it, the Bible tells us that God's love is most clearly shown to us in the life and death of Jesus:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. - John 3:16

But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

When we give our lives to Jesus, we surrender ourselves to God's love, and it is God's love in our lives that heals and transforms us. Today, take some time to reflect on the deep love of God for you. And if you are having trouble believing or receiving this love, pray and ask God to help you experience His love in the deepest places of your heart. God wants to love you.

Have a blessed day,

Pastor Chris
