Dear Friends,
As we travel deeper into this season of challenge and uncertainty, each of us is having to adapt and adjust in different ways. In the midst of it all, we are reminded of the necessity of prayer in our lives. But how should we pray? The words of Jesus on the topic of prayer are very helpful here; I like this version of the Lord's Prayer from the Message:
Matthew 6:9-13 (The Message Bible)
"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:
Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best—
as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes."
There is no magic in prayer, but rather a simple and straightforward communication with God. The biggest challenge for us is to do it! And when we do, we can have the trust and peace that we have released our needs and our burdens into His loving hands.
May you experience this peace today.
Blessings,
Pastor Chris
