PBPC Daily - Wednesday, April 29
Good morning and welcome to Wednesday.
God has given us minds as well as hearts so that we can learn and think and grow. Over the course of our lives, we hope to grow in both knowledge and wisdom. We look at the world around us and seek to have a greater understanding of what is happening, and we eagerly desire to find solutions to the challenges that we face. All of this is good, and it happens because we are created in the image of God.
But the tendency of humanity throughout our history is to rely upon ourselves and upon our ability to understand reality and to come up with our own solutions to our problems. We become the masters of our own destiny, and eventually our pride leaves no place for God in our lives. We see the results of this in the brokenness of human lives and culture all around us.
Psalm 131 is one of the shortest of all of the Psalms, and it gently and succinctly reminds us that we are not God.
1O Lord, my heart is not lifted up,
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a child quieted at its mother's breast;
like a child that is quieted is my soul.3 O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and for evermore.
Ultimately, God is the Creator and we are part of His good creation. There is much that we do not understand and we are dependent upon God for our well-being. Instead of seeing this as a limitation, we can take great comfort in knowing that God, our Creator, is in control of all things. We can rest and trust in Him, just as a small child rests in its mother's loving arms.
May each of us find rest in God's loving presence today.
Blessings,
Pastor Chris
