PBPC Daily - Wednesday, April 22
Good morning and welcome to Wednesday. Today I continue in reflection upon the great theme of this season - Life.
I believe that the great conflict presented in Scripture is between Life and Death. From the very beginning in the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve sinned, the consequence was that they lost access to the Tree of Life and therefore were condemned to (eventually) die.
Humanity lived under this curse of death until Jesus Christ came into the world. He said of himself, "I came that they might have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10) The word abundantly is very descriptive: think of a cup that is so full that it is spilling over - it is more than full, it is overflowing.
But this life that Jesus offers is not gained by a pathway or a philosophy, and it is not achieved by following a set of rules or special instructions (although it includes all of these things.) The key words of Jesus on this topic of life are found in John 14:6:
Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Life comes from God, and apart from God there is no life. What Adam and Eve lost in the garden was the connection with God that would result in everlasting life. In Jesus, this life of God is restored to us. True life comes from relationship with Jesus, because Jesus is the life.
Take a moment to reflect on your relationship with Jesus. Is Jesus your life?
Have a blessed day,
Pastor Chris
