Fwd: PBPC Daily - Thursday of Holy Week

Dear Friends,

Grace and peace to you this morning. Today is Maundy Thursday. The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum, which means commandment. During the last supper with his disciples, Jesus surprised them all by washing their feet, and he told them, "A new commandment I give you, that you love one another." (John 13:34)

Of course, this was not a new commandment; the Old Testament had instructed God's people to love their neighbor as themselves. But Jesus placed this commandment at the center of what it meant to be his followers. Not only this, but he provided us with the ultimate example of love.

"Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for a friend." John 15:13

On this day, as we remember the beginning of Jesus' suffering, let us remember that his journey to the cross was a journey of love. And he made this journey for his friends, those he loves.

We are his friends.

Blessings,

Pastor Chris
