Fwd: PBPC Daily - Holy Saturday
Good morning, Friends.
Today is Holy Saturday, the day after the crucifixion. Christ's body had been placed in the tomb on Friday evening.
57When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus. 58He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59So Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth 60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock. He then rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb and went away. 61Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb. - Matthew 27:57-61
This fulfilled the words of the Prophet:
8 By a perversion of justice he was taken away.
Who could have imagined his future?
For he was cut off from the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people.
9 They made his grave with the wicked
and his tomb with the rich,
although he had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth. - Isaiah 53:8-9
Who could have imagined his future?
For he was cut off from the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people.
9 They made his grave with the wicked
and his tomb with the rich,
although he had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth. - Isaiah 53:8-9
Today was the day of silence, the day that Jesus' lifeless body laid in the tomb. This was the day of despair and disappointment for Jesus' followers, those who had placed their hopes in him. This was the day on which death appeared to have the last word.
Take some time today to reflect upon the silence of the tomb. What does the future hold when the Messiah lies lifeless in the grave?
Blessing,
Pastor Chris
